I fancy the idea of coaching but I have never done it before
Not to worry, every single coach has been in exactly the position you are now. We will make sure that you have every opportunity to move at your pace. We will partner you with one of our current coaches so that you can help and watch at the same time.

I have never worked with children before, is there anything else I should know?
There are a few things but we will help you through all of this. One of the most important things is to ensure the safety of all our young players, so ALL of our coaches have to have a ‘CRB’ which is a Criminal Records Bureau check. This check is valid for three years and has to be renewed after that period. Our welfare officer will help you with all of these areas and answer any queries that you may have.
I wasn’t very good at rugby as a player; could I still become a coach?
YES you can. Some of the best coaches were not very good players. Coaching & playing are two very different things. Coaching is about passing on information to the players, working with them to learn new techniques; developing their competencies. They can then use these new skills to improve their own game.
I don’t want to work with children, but would like to get involved with adult rugby, how do I do that?
Our senior section, the Ashfield Stormers only has two teams and one coach at the moment. Andy Hine would be more than happy to have someone or a number of people to work alongside him. Andy’s profession is in teaching Adults & Young People, so he has the skills to help you learn and develop and be involved with the Adults teams if that is what you would like to do! Who knows how many teams we might have in the future!
Are there any female coaches / Teams?
We have one female coach working with the Ashfield Tornados. Although we don’t have any playing female teams; we are working hard to develop the ladies section, the Ashfield Vixens. We have a number or players and are working to increase this so we can play on a regular basis. Contact our Head coach Andy Hine for more information on this.
Who do I need to speak to and how?
