Ashfield Rugby Club TryLine Project
An alternative education establishment for Key Stage 3
The course is certified Peak Award level 1 and 2 through the Duke of Edinburgh Award body in Derbyshire. The flexible nature of this course allows each student to create a personal plan for their work which can be carried over to other award bodies such as ASDAN and OCN.
Course Culture and Values
Students are treated as adults and are expected to behave accordingly. Teamwork and empathy for others, both on the course, and towards members of the public form a fundamental part of the course. Bad behaviour is challenged immediately, dealt with and learnt from, both individually and as a group. Students are selected from the course through Mansfield's behaviour support unit (MATES). Young people who struggle in a classroom environment and find an academic approach difficult floursh on the course.
Our committment
- provide a quality alternative educational environment for young people
- promote discipline, self-respect and respect for others through sport and team activities
- challenge students in areas of physical and mental activities in real situations
- challenge bad behaviour by enforcing real consequences
- reward good work and behaviour both individually and in peer groups
- provide an introduction for young people to gain knowledge of their environment and the real impact they can have on it
- provide an environment for one to one discussions with student problems that is to (walk and talk). Rather than talking in a group sitting around, whilst walking to activities the group gets split thus giving the opportunity for one to one private conversations
- introduce young people to agencies working in the environment, these include the National Trust, The Peak Park Authority and the Forestry Commission and the work they do
- show how basic skills are needed outside the classroom (360 degrees navigation for shopping for food)
- help young people to realise they are of value in a positive way
- provide positive adult role models
- help show young people a healthy way to live both physically and mentally
- have the flexibility to deliver the course to suit individual needs
- give back to the community in a positive way
