Ashfield Tornadoes
Since its formation 3 years ago Ashfield have seen its numbers grow to circa 250 players supported by newly qualified coaching staff and parental support the 2007/2008 season has started strongly, with nearly all age groups being unbeaten in their first 5 games respectively.
Annual General Meeting
The 2008 Tornadoes AGM has been set for the 11th May, starting at 1pm at Moor Lane.
The junior committee
The Junior committee are working hard to provide new kits and equipment, with a successful start to 2007 bringing new kits for all age groups and new coaching equipment for each team. In the 2006/2007 season we saw tours to Holt for the minis – U12’s and a second tour to Blackpool for the U15’s to colts, the Junior tours for 2007/2008 take us to Holt, Worthing and Holland, with fund raising events reducing the cost of the tours to the players and ensuring all can afford to travel.
Fundraising
Fund raising events have been Race nights raising over £1000.00, a Landsend to John O’Groats bike ride which raised £2000.00 and most recently a 24 hour bike ride which money is still being collected.
Girls team
Our ambitions for the Junior section is to recruit enough female players to have a full girls team, in at least two age groups.
Disaffected yourth programme
Ashfield Rugby Club run a disaffected youth programme which involves all Secondary School within Ashfield/Mansfield district and employs two full time staff, which takes the children through the Peak Award which is the Pre-runner to the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
Youth development officer
Ashfield Rugby Club also employ a full time Ashfield Rugby Club also employ a full time Youth Development Officer, who’s responsibilities include introducing Rugby to all Junior Schools and developing Rugby skills at Secondary School level.
