Ashfield U13s 5 : 0 Ilkeston U13s
.
5th October 2008
Ashfield u13s first game of the season was against a strong Ilkeston side, on a very cold and windy morning Ashfield u13s just came out on top.
Ashfield playing against the elements drove hard at the visitor going close a few times but cold wet hands let them down, Ilkeston came to play as well and ran hard at Ashfield but good tackling from all kept them out. Both side tried to get the ball wide to the wingers and flyer Tom Hunt made the most of his space running the ball back at the visitors with great determination, not to be out done Liam Blunden did the same and went close.
Ashfield’s try came from Ilkeston trying to move the ball through the backs, the ball went lose, No8 Tom Marsh retrieved the ball, ran through and as the full back came over to tackle him off loaded to fly half Bill North who went over for the try.
In the second half Ashfield with the slop and wind now with them, Ashfield pressed hard but very strong defence from the visitors kept them out Inside Centre Tom Ellis ran hard at the visitor, but came up short Bill North went close, so did Josh Marshal, but strong defence kept them out.
The game finished on a sad note as one of the Ilkeston front rows suffered a bad injury; the game finished 5 minutes early.
All at Ashfield RFC wish the young man well and hope he’s back playing rugby very soon.
